Atlanta Vegan at the Cafe Sunflower

This is a little Jewel for a 'full flavor' seeker! My Waiter was Derik (I think), a real nice guy with a passion for Vegan eats!! He knows the menu inside-out and his recommendation was spot on! I had a spring roll for an appetizer:

A nice root beer, Sesame Chicken and finished with a non dairy, no egg Raspberry Chocolate Mouse cake, OMG it was incredible. The serving of sesame chicken was so plentiful I couldn't finish the cake but really wished I could.

Alpharetta What?

Not really off the beaten path, I take a trip here every year. October is a great time of the year to be in Atlanta. From Phoenix its a 3 hour flight so a 7 AM departure gets me there a little late for lunch (1 PM). By the time I get out of the airport and drive to Roswell/Alpharetta it's still lunch time on my internal clock.

So I decided to do a post-check-in lunch excursion. Most places are closed or at least on the 'after lunch pause' so they can get ready for the diner event. I did find a nice sport pub 'Millers Ale House and Raw Bar'. I was pleasantly surprised to see they have New Castle Brown Ale on TAP!!!! My Fav and 'on TAP'!! So I ordered the lunch special of the day Chicken pot pie!

Not a pot and not a pie but they nailed it with this large bowl of Volute and Chicken with the appropriate veggies! But best of all was the nice topping done with a flaky pie crust thingy! Done right!

If the rest of my trip is going to be like this, I'm excited!!

Factory of cheese and I'm lactose intolerant

My friend Dave just got back from China with his new wife. They had a nice return flight and seemed to recover from the long trip with ease. So, we got together to do the 'Dinner' thing and get some face to face time with Dave's wife Anna. A real sweet lady enjoying life and her new husband.

Off to the 'Factory' (Cheesecake Factory).

We figured a good classic American restaurant would be a good choice to treat Anna to a variety of American Cuisine and we all ordered appetizers from their Bar Menu. This was a great decision!!

Cuban

I ordered these Cuban sandwiches and grabbed the photo with my iPhone, Mmmmmm!!

The four of us ate for about $35.00 and we had a to-go bag when we were done.
So, with the Cubans we also had:
Shrimp Summer Rolls
Avocado Spring Rolls
Chicken Pot Stickers
A Tuna Roll
Chicken Quesadia
Buffalo Wings - too spicy for Julia

I'll post more when I can remember :))

I think it well liked and not to much for a first formal intro meal!!

Of course we ate to much to get dessert and it wouldn't have been fun for me anyway. Take that back, I love cheesecake :))

Best Practices Result in Best Service - and a question!!??!!

Went to a favorite restaurant with my wife last night, Coronado Cafe. A nice little fine dinning establishment in a nice old house. They have tried to return the house to the original condition with some nice embellishments. The cuisine is certainly high end and a good deal. They offered a special appetizer which we had to try. Portobello fries! Very nicely done with a thin breading and seasoning served with a dipping sauce. We asked for two, the Ranch cause my wife doesn't like spicy food and the other choice was a green chili sauce. The Green chili sauce was creamy and very mild, I loved it and the Portobello's were great with the mild spiciness.
Here is the Question? - After the meal my wife was very full and didn't finish her pork, so of course, we asked for a to-go box. They brought a very nice box that they had labeled as 'Pork" with the date 6/2. I thought that was a very nice touch. I consider this over the top service and certainly a 'Best Practice'.
Now the real question: Have you had any experiences in restaurants that you consider a 'Best Practice' and would like to see at many if not all places you dine?

Another example, that is a little over the top, and is more gimmicky that 'Best Practice' is when the bill is presented a wide selection of fine pens is also presented to sign the bill. It's very nice but I just don't consider it a 'Best Practice'. So what have you seen?
